Can Murphy Come Back?

Geordan Murphy sat out much of this years Six Nations, Dempsey was the man, but can Geordan fight his way back?

Dempsey has been in amazing form, something that Murphy himself is all to aware of: “Girvan is a lovely guy and ironically, we’ve been rooming together much of this season. I’m sure he would have felt the same way about me two years ago when I was in the side.”

The solidly reliable and steady Dempsey has been dependable  this year (as is required in this years Six Nations campaign), Murphy can be eccentic, sometimes dangerously unpredictable and amazingly brilliant all in one game.

Murphy is an eccentric genius maybe, along the lines of Rugby’s George Best?

O’Sullivan is known for his “conservativeness”, but is caution the right way to enter World Cup year?

Caution has got them where they are today, wannabe Grand Slam-ers who have let it out of there reach again. Would Murphy have made a difference, maybe, I’ve watched him at Leicester and on his day he’s a genius.

“We are good enough to beat anyone in the world on our day. And I will want to be there and be out on the field,” he says.

Would a move back to Ireland push him back up the ranking internally? Possibly, I’m biased, Leicester is my home town, and clubs (as far as I’m concerned) don’t get much bigger than the Tigers.

Geordan has a habit of playing up on the big stage (like any of the greats in any sport),lesser mortals would be intimidated by the expectations of a club like Leicester, but not Murphy.

Challenges, of course, can inspire and cajole or, conversely, intimidate and shackle. No prizes for guessing into which category Geordan Murphy fits.
