O’Sullivan in the Last Chance Saloon
Eddie O’Sullivan believes that Ireland can upset the odds and claim a win over Argentina this weekend. They need to score four or more tries against Argentina and defeat them by more than seven points to progress.
“It’s the last chance saloon but we know there’s a great performance in this team and we will see it on Sunday,” said O’Sullivan.
“It has all come down to this game and we’ve got to make it happen.”
“There’s a lot of motivations for the weekend and the fear of going out is certainly one of them.
“We’ve proved we can produce big performances last autumn and through the Six Nations – it’s about getting that on the field this weekend.”
The team’s disappointing displays in their first three games has led to widespread criticism of O’Sullivan and his team.
“You have to be philosophical about it,” he added.
“I personally accept the plaudits when things go well and you’ve got to accept criticism when it’s not going so well.
“It’s part and parcel of the job, everyone gets criticised.
“It’s also that there is so much emphasis on the World Cup – the whole world media is looking in and it’s probably more obvious than it was before.
“We haven’t played the type of rugby to give anyone much hope that we are going to do something special against Argentina.
“But there are plenty of messages coming in from real rugby supporters wanting us to do well, are behind the team all the way and are hoping we we deliver on Sunday.”
