Shane Geraghty, was it the right choice?

Shane Geraghty recently made the tough decision to represent the red rose army (England) over the mighty high-flying Ireland.

  • Ireland find themselves not in their usual mid-table “also ran” position currently but favourites to take a team to win their first Grand Slam in 60 years.
  • England, well - England are England and currently have nothing, the World Champions are running on empty and the Celts are loving it!

Geraghty was recently named in England’s 33-man squad for the forthcoming Six Nations, after seeking advice from many around him (including Mike Catt). He turned down Ireland even with a father that hails from Co. Mayo and a mother with Irish ancestry going back generations!

Ireland can only watch as he gets ready to take them on, Irish concern is being voiced as the replacement for O’Gara post the upcoming World Cup is sought. Surely Geraghty would have been guaranteed a place had he stuck with the men in green?

In contrast England have several outside-halves Flood (Newcastle), Lamb (Gloucester), Cipriani (Wasps).

All we can say is Shane will have to play the games of his life to guarantee his place in the England setup, and even then Ireland will be waiting for him!
