Ireland Sevens win in Poland
Still on the journey to qualification for the IRB Sevens World Cup, Ireland put in a dominant performance in Sopot at this weekend’s stage of qualifying.
Winning 24-0 over hosts Poland proved that Ireland were back on the road after their narrow defeat to Wales in the first stage two weeks ago. Winning all four of their pool matches they also beat Denmakr (47-0), Hungary and Lithuania (40-0) and Sweden (21-0), before facing the Netherlands in the semi-final, beating them 21-0.
A final against an unbeaten Poland saw Ireland win 24-0, notching up a total of 204 points over the weekend and conceding none!
Next up for the Sevens squad is a trip to Hanover on the weekend of July 12 and 13. The top five teams from this qualifier will earn a place in next year’s IRB Sevens World Cup in Dubai.
