England bids for 2015 World Cup
The English rugby authority (English Rugby Football Union) has announced its intention to submit a tender document to the International Rugby Board for a bid to host the 2015 Rugby World Cup. The Union has stated that the sites of Twickenham, Wembley, Old Trafford and the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff will be central venues for their bid.
The details surrounding the English bid are sketchy at the moment as the Union does not want to reveal anything until the presentation has been made to the IRB in Dublin next week.
The guarantees that are required by the IRB for the hosting of the event mean that this is not a decision that is taken lightly and the Union has stated that it is making a big commitment.
The English bid goes up against those of South Africa, Italy and Japan, amongst others.
